Suvetha is a Chicago-based ABA therapist previously from Miami, Florida. She is pursuing a Ph.D. in clinical-community psychology at DePaul University, focusing on ability and atypical health diversity.
Her work with neuro and ability diverse individuals in the past has shaped her perspective and skill sets. Suvetha started out as an intern working in recreational therapy and rehabilitation services of the Spinal Cord Injury Unit at the James A Haley VA Hospital. She also conducted research on paralysis with the Lois Pope Life Center’s Miami Project to Cure Paralysis.
After studying neuroscience and anthropology at the University of Miami, she focused on the sustainable development of health institutions for the Peace Corps’shealth sector in Mozambique. While serving, Suvetha also connected ability diverse and other marginalized groups with mental health and case management resources. Her work abroad motivated her to become RBT certified and work as an ABA therapist since 2019, upon her return to the US.
Currently, while working with SBS, Suvetha conducts research on atypical health, sensory sensitivities, and chronic pain for those with chronic conditions such as me/cfs, fibromyalgia, long covid, multiple sclerosis, and post polio syndrome.
After receiving her Ph.D. Suvetha plans to further specialize as she continues to support neurodiverse and ability diverse families.
Fun fact: Suvetha speaks 5 languages and surfs in Lake Michigan.
