Summertime is the perfect time to kick back and relax with your kids. Special trips, vacations and summer camp are all apart of the summertime break. But sometimes, things get very relaxed and kids start to act out. A great way to help maintain structure and to avoid chaos is to keep on using behavior charts, like during the rest of the year.
Keep the behavior charts going! Give a ticket, star, or other item intermittently for following directions the first time, or for kind words, or any other positive behavior. Make the chart visual and in a place that your child will frequently see it. Specify how many tokens your child needs to earn prior to “cashing them in” for a prize. It would help if you went to the store ahead of time and your child could see the prize options. For some kids, a trip to the store is too delayed and abstract because they can’t “see” the object they are earning.
Enjoy this special time of year with your kids!
